Cake loading to trays

Cake loading to trays

Automated loading of cakes onto trays.

The trays are de-nested using an ABB robot.

The operator can replenish the stacks of trays without stopping the robot loading.

The tray stacks from the box occasionally come wedged together causing the robot not being able to pickup the tray. In this situation the robot after a couple of attempts will automatically start loading from the other side of the de-nester. A tower lamp alerts the operator of the presence of a wedged tray. They can then rectify the problem and allow the robot to resume de-nesting from that stack.

The cakes come in sets of 4 at a rate of 900 per hour. Using conveyor tracking the robot will pick up the cake and place it in the tray.

Croissant Packing

When your production volumes are high you need automation that can match your output.

This automation cell:

  • Takes packets of croissants directly from the bakery line at production output speed
  • Erects a box
  • Packs the trays into shippers in layers of 4
  • Palletises the shippers with slip sheet on pallet
  • Shrink- wraps with corner posts ready for dispatch.

All at a rate of 260 packets per minute (approx. 4 per second)

Automation of corner posting is always a challenge but this custom built example offers a unique reliable solution.

Automatic Corner Post

Automatic Corner Post

This automatic corner post application on a turntable stretch wrapper uses an ABB IRB 1200 to pick up a corner post from a magazine stack, fold it then apply tack adhesive.

The robot:

  • scans the corner of the pallet for accurate placement of the corner post.
  • applies one layer of stretch wrapping to the pallet before attaching the corner posts.
  • then applies another layer of stretch wrapping to hold the posts in place permanently.
